The Arco Lake / Lagoa dos Arcos (Ex.
[ENGLISH] The Arco is a beautiful inland lake (oasis) that appears in the middle of nowhere. Lake Arco is situated 15km west of Tombua and 65km south of Namibe the regional capital of the Namibe province, Angola. Lake Arco is a hidden treasure located within a canyon on the banks of this freshwater oasis, magnificent sandstone rock formations form the backdrop for lush aquatic vegetation, water lilies and a diversity of birds. This lake got its name from the arch (Archo) found on the shores of this lake. The local Kimbundu people live in huts and fish, plant sugarcane and work on organised farmlands. Footpaths to and from Lake Arco are accessible, and offer the best vantage point to see the birdlife and amazing sandstone cliffs. Be sure to visit Lake Arco on wind still day as the sand that is blown around when a hot easterly wind blows out of the desert makes this trip a challenge.
